US Casino Revenues Continue to Increase in 2015

Refund Management Services (www.RefundManagement.com), the number one choice for Canada’s biggest winners for U.S. gaming and casino tax refunds, is reacting to rising casino revenue in the state of Mississippi.

According to the Department of State Revenue, casinos in Mississippi generated $165 million in revenue in the month of September; a three percent increase over the $160.1 million in September 2014. The 11 coastal casinos brought in $92 million, a four percent increase from last year. The 17 river casinos won $73 million, up 2.05% from September 2014. This is the twelfth increase over the last 14 months for coastal casinos, but only the fifth increase in 39 months for river casinos. Revenues from the Choctaw Indian casinos are not included in the data because Indian-owned casinos do not report their winnings to the state. “Mississippi is a popular travel destination for Canadian snowbirds who travel south to escape the winter and enjoy the southern sun. And with approximately 30 commercial casinos, Mississippi is also a popular spot for those who like to gamble,” says Brooke Sacks, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Refund Management Services. “In fact, Canadians spend $80 million each year while visiting the great state of Mississippi.”

However, Canadians and other non-U.S. residents need to keep in mind that significant winnings from slots, typically over $1,200, is considered income in the U.S. and subject to a 30% withholding tax. For instance, winning $1,500 on a slot machine translates into a payout of $1,050. That tax applies to the vast majority of non-U.S. visitors to the United States, including those from Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.

“Non-U.S. residents that have had 30% of their winnings held back by the IRS may be eligible for a refund and they can turn to Refund Management Services to help them reclaim a portion or all of their taxable winnings,” Brooke concludes. “The most reliable and experienced gaming and casino tax refund provider for non-U.S. residents, RMS was founded by a Canadian Chartered Accountant and is a certified agent of the IRS. Refund Management Services has never been refused an eligible refund.”
