Record March Gambling Revenue at Pennsylvania Casinos

Refund Management Services (www.RefundManagement.com), the number one choice amongst Canada’s biggest winners for U.S. gaming and casino tax refunds, is reacting to Pennsylvania gambling revenue hitting a new record high in March.

“2015 was a record year for Pennsylvania casinos and that momentum has carried into 2016,” says Brooke Sacks, vice president of marketing and business development at Refund Management Services. “While the first casino in Pennsylvania only opened in 2007, the state quickly became a popular travel destination for gamblers. In fact, in 2012, Pennsylvania surpassed New Jersey as the second-largest gambling market in the U.S.”

Table revenue from Pennsylvania’s 12 commercial casinos generated a record $77.91 million in gross revenue in March. That represents a 7.8% increase over the previous record of $72.23 million set in December 2015. Slot machine revenue in March increased for the sixth consecutive month, up 1.7% at $211 million. Total gaming from Pennsylvania casinos was up 4.21% at $289.16 million. Sacks explains that because Pennsylvania is a short drive from the Ontario border, more and more Canadians are visiting the “State of Independence” to play the slots, table games, and poker and bet on horses. However, Canadians and other non-U.S. residents visiting any of the state’s 12 casinos need to understand that their winnings are subject to a 30% withholding tax by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). But if they live in Canada, or any other country that has signed a U.S. tax treaty, they may be eligible for a refund. Those living in countries without a treat may still qualify—phone RMS for criteria and more information at 1-888-272-5559.

“If you visit Pennsylvania or any other state and win $1,500 playing the slots, the casino will only give you $1,050; the IRS keeps the rest. That said, there is a way for Canadians and other eligible non-U.S. residents to recover a portion or all of their withheld winnings,” Sacks concludes. “RMS was founded by a chartered accountant and is the most reliable and experienced gaming and casino tax refund provider for eligible non-U.S. residents. Only RMS has the One Simple StepTM process; our customer service agents take care of the rest. Even though it can take a minimum of one year for the IRS to review a claim, RMS has never been refused an eligible refund.”
