There are more casinos in the United States than in any other country. But not all casinos are created equal: some are known for their slots or table games while others are known for the number of live poker tables or high-limit areas. Other casinos are known for horseracing, greyhound tracks, and sports-betting parlours.
Generally, though, the bigger the casino the better it is. The greater the square feet the better the chances are that you’ll be able to enjoy almost every game imaginable. While most would probably guess that the biggest casinos in America are in Las Vegas, Sin City doesn’t make an appearance in the top 10.
Canadians and other non-U.S. residents who like to play the slots or table games need to remember that their casino winnings could be subject to a 30% withholding tax by the IRS. Fortunately, with Refund Management Services (RMS), there is a way for you to get a portion or all of that withholding tax back.
Biggest Gaming Floors at U.S. Casinos
Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia might be the five biggest cities in the U.S. for gambling, but none of them are home to the 10 biggest casinos in America. In fact, if you want to visit the biggest casinos in the U.S., you’ll have better luck in Oklahoma, California, and Connecticut.
Here is a list of the five biggest casinos in America based on square footage.
5 U.S. Casinos with the Biggest Gaming Floors
WinStar World Casino and Resort
WinStar is home to the biggest casino in the U.S. and, if you count gaming machines, it’s the biggest casino in the world. WinStar Wold Casino is located in Thackerville, Oklahoma, two hours south of Oklahoma City and 90 minutes north of Dallas.
Owned and operated by the Chickawaw Nation of Oklahoma, the casino floor at WinStar covers 616,960 square feet. The casino has eight city-themed gaming plazas—Paris, Beijing, Rome, London, Madrid, Vienna, Cairo, and New York City—and boasts over 7,400 electronic games, 100 tables, off-track betting, Bingo, Keno, and high stakes.1
The WinStar resort also includes a three-tower hotel with 1,400 rooms, a spa, swimming pool, shopping, entertainment, and dining options for every budget.
Foxwoods Resort Casino
If you want to hit the biggest casino resort in the U.S., you have to head to Mashantucket, Connecticut. Owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Reservation, the resort covers over 9.0 million square feet while the casino occupies 340,000 square feet.
At the Foxwoods Casino you’ll find 4,800 slots that take denominations from a penny to $100.00, 250 tables offering 22 different kinds of table games, including Baccarat, Blackjack, Craps, and Pai Gow. Foxwoods is also home to the largest Poker Room on the East Coast, a 3,600-seat Bingo Hall, and Keno.2
The Foxwoods complex contains four different hotels, all of which have an AAA Four Diamond rating. At Foxwoods, you’ll also find shopping, dining, entertainment, spa, golf, bowling, arcade, museum, and hiking trails.
Also located in Connecticut is Mohegan Sun. Overlooking the Thames River, Mohegan Sun is owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut. One of the largest casinos in the country, the casino covers more than 300,000 square feet spread out over three casinos (Casino of the Earth, Casino of the Sky, and Casino of the Wind).3
The casino has more than 5,000 slots, over 300 table games, 42 tables in the Poker Room, race book, and Sunrise Square, where you can play traditional Asian games, including Pai Gow Poker, Mini-Baccarat, and Sic Bo.

San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino
You can find San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino on the outskirts of San Bernardino, California, in the shadows of the San Bernardino Mountains. If you’re flying in, it’s 140km east of LAX.
The San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino is owned and operated by the San Manuel Band of Serrano Mission Indians and has been a Southern California staple since 1986. The casino floor covers 220,000 square feet, on which you’ll find over 3,800 slot machines, table games, a 38-table poker room, and 1,400-seat state-of-the-art bingo hall. The 5,000-square foot High Limit Room offers both high-dollar slots and up to $2,000-a-hand table games.

U.S. Gaming Winnings Subject to 30% Withholding Tax
If you travel to the U.S. and visit a casino or racetrack or play in a poker tournament and win a substantial amount of money, your winnings could be subject to a withholding tax by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Residents of foreign countries without a U.S. tax treaty will be subject to a 30% withholding tax.
BUT, if you live in a country like Canada that has signed a U.S. tax treaty, you may be eligible for a refund.
There are a number of countries that currently do not have a U.S. tax treaty. However, if you reside in any of the following countries, you could still be eligible for a refund: Australia, Bahrain, Barbados, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Israel, Kuwait, Mexico, Malaysia, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, and the U.A.E.
